About TIPOH
The first and only institute in West Virginia dedicated exclusively to the study and application of trauma's impact on learning.
Our Mission
The Institute for the Pedagogy of Humanity (TIPOH) centers the adults in a child's life — families, educators, and the systems around them. We believe that by changing the world around a child, we empower a whole community to become one village: offering a hand up, not a hand out, to protect every child.
Our work reaches every level of that ecosystem — the home, the classroom, the community, and the policies that shape them all.
What We Do
Teachers, counselors, and mandated reporters are among the adults most likely to touch the life of every child in a community. TIPOH equips them through original research, educator training, and community programs that build resilience and protective factors — for safer, healthier classrooms and communities.
